Siya Kolisi took a massive salary cut so that he could complete his move from the Sharks to the Stormers. His move back to the Stormers now is not about money, but something deeper and personal.
The Springboks captain remains a faithful servant and son of the Stormers, the club he played for the most. With 118 appearances, Siya is set to feature again, but this time at a huge financial cost.
WHY SIYA KOLISI TOOK A SALARY CUT TO JOIN THE STORMERS
Welcoming Siya Kolisi, Stormers coach John Dobson said Siya was coming for something other than money.
“Siya was desperate to come back and made a massive financial sacrifice to be here. That gesture is appreciated. He said all I want to do is play for the Stormers and come back to Cape Town.
“When you have a Springbok captain who has made a great contribution to the country, you make that gesture. It would be unfair to him to reveal the numbers, but that showed where his heart is. There is not one element of financial gain.” Dobbo said, speaking about Siya’s sacrifice.
“Siya told us he is not here to take the place of Paul de Villiers or for a pay cheque. He wants to help bring youngsters through, and when the Stormers need him, he will put his body on the line as he does for the Springboks.” Dobbo continued speaking about the real reason Siya made the move.
Once again, Siya Kolisi has shown his other side, coming back to Cape Town for only to be closer to home and his family. With his recent divorce from Rachel, surely there is a lot to sort out at home and to see his children.
