All Blacks flanker Dalton Papali’i speaks after going through an Achilles surgery on Wednesday, 15 July. Indeed, it’s been a tough start to life in France after Dalton signed for Castres from the Blues this summer.
However, his injury has now ruled him out for the first half of the season, as he is expected to be out for six months. “Our new signing, back-rower Dalton Papali’i, ruptured his Achilles tendon during training yesterday and underwent surgery this Wednesday. He will be sidelined for a minimum of six months. Everyone at Castres Olympique stands firmly behind Dalton and will fully support him throughout his recovery,” the club said, announcing the news.
On his Instagram, Dalton opened his heart, revealing the pain he is in.

“Everyone who’s an athlete knows this tough side of professional sport. Gutted as hell to cut this new journey short for my first year, but already feeling the love and support from @castresolympique organisation, players and city.” he started showing how much he is in pain, but also acknowledging the love from the Castres family.
“Nothing like a small bump in the road to motivate you more. I’ll be back 😤,” he continued, showing his desire to come back even stronger. His message revealed the burning fire he expressed when he signed the contract.
“I think I’ve reached the maturity necessary to have such an experience to adapt to a different style of rugby and embark on a new adventure while contributing fully to the team. I know the club’s history; I know that several All Blacks have preceded me at Castres, such as Kees Meeuws, Carl Hoeft, Chris Masoe, and more recently Jack Goodhue and Gary Whetton, with whom I’ve had a long conversation. It’s a city passionate about its club and offers a family-oriented environment. It’s also a club that loves taking on challenges. All of that suits me.” Dalton said that when he joined Castres, he still had the same fire, even when injured.
