Black Ferns star Jorja Miller has detailed what it means growing up in a small town like Timaru. Jorja has become one of the finest players in women’s rugby worldwide. Her influence has grown so fast that even her relatives in Timaru are now feeling it.
Speaking after extending her contract with the Black Ferns until 2029, Jorja detailed her journey. She showed her other side, humble, calm and determined, something that most of her fans loved.

“Yeah, Timaru has been really massive for me, I think, as a kid I just loved my childhood, and being able to grow in a smaller community”, she said, speaking of her childhood.
“I’ve really reaped the rewards, especially now, leaving, like I just feel all the support, whether it’s the rugby community or just random people, and they always stop my grandparents and say Hi and congrats and all of that stuff. It’s really special, and I guess that’s probably something I am really proud of, being from Timaru and calling that home,” she continued speaking of the massive support she receives back home.
“I guess it just shows you don’t need to be from a big city to make it into the big time”, she continued speaking about her novel from Christchurch and the support she received through schooling.
She also talked about how the journey inspired her and instilled the values that have led her to where she is today.
