Coming through as a young boy, Oscar was a natural athlete, good at several sports. He later chose rugby, dedicating himself to it to go pro.

In 2008, he joined Oléron RC, a move he made to get professional development in the academy. He stayed with Oléron RC for a year before signing for La Rochelle, seeking more challenges. His move to La Rochelle in 2009 proved to be life-changing.
Oscar grew up at the La Rochelle academy, progressing through several age groups and proving his worth. As he grew into a complete player, he started training with the senior team here and there, gaining the much-needed experience. He impressed so much that the senior team coaches could no longer ignore him.
PROFESSIONAL CAREER
After impressing in the academy, Oscar Jégou went on to make his La Rochelle debut in 2023. He immediately impressed and became a key part of the squad. As of February 2023, he has over 30 appearances for the club and has over 40 points.
After cementing himself as one of the most important players, La Rochelle sought to keep him at the club. Oscar agreed and signed a contract that lasts until 2028.
FRANCE NATIONAL TEAM
After impressing at the La Rochelle academy, Oscar received a call-up to the Under-20 national team. He was part of the highly rated France Under 20 that won the World Rugby U20 Championship in 2023.
Winning the Under-20 World Cup became his breakthrough tournament, and it fast-tracked his rise. Jégou made his first appearance for the France national team in July 2024 against Argentina.

The following year, in 2025, he played a decent role in the Six Nations Championship and won it. He also played a significant role in the 2020 Six Nations Championship.
SEX ASSAULT CHARGES AND ACQUITTAL
Oscar Jégou was arrested on 8 July 2024, together with his teammate, Hugo Auradou, accused of sexual assault in Argentina.
The accuser claimed that the two stars assaulted her at a Diplomatic hotel in Mendoza, Argentina, on 6 July 2024, while the Les Bleus tour was underway in the area.
She went on to claim that the accused not only assaulted her, but also strangled and beat her.
During the course of the investigations, both Oscar and Hugo maintained that they did have sex with the plaintiff, and the encounter was entirely consensual.
After the investigation, Oscar and Hugo were acquitted due to questionable evidence.

Jégou is a modern back-row forward: at about 1.90 m and 100 kg, he combines good size with mobility as a flanker for Stade Rochelais and France. He plays at a high tempo and with a strong work rate, repeatedly getting through defensive tasks and staying connected to the breakdown and ball carriers. Coaches value him as a reliable lineout option and a disciplined, diligent defender. At the same time, match reports often note his ability to force turnovers and then get back into the next phase.
