MATEO CARRERAS’ AGE AND EARLY LIFE

Born on 17 December 1999, Mateo Carreras turned 27 years in 2026. The talented winner was born in Tucuman, Argentina, where he grew up.

Growing up, Mateo started playing rugby on the streets with his friends. He later started playing more seriously as he grew up in high school. During High School, he developed, becoming one of the finest of his generation, a source of hope to all the Argentine faithful.

As he grew in his game, he drew so much attention from some of the country’s top teams—a choice he had to make, going professional.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER

After impressing in junior rugby, Mateo Carreras signed for Los Tarcos in 2018, where he made his professional debut. He immediately impressed, becoming one of their best wings and rising among the best.

He did not stay long at Los Tarcos; he left in 2019 and signed for Jaguares XV. The move to Jaguares XV proved to be a career-changing one, exposing him to top rugby as he took part in the Super Rugby squad. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 lockdown came, and he could not play much, but had already shown the world what he has.

Come 2021, the talented wing joined the English giants Newcastle Falcons, a move that gave him the much-needed breakthrough. At Newcastle Falcons, he developed into a world-class star, cementing the wing position as his own. He went on to play in 39 games and scored 80 points.

Hitting the ground running, Mateo Carreras became one of the best players at Newcastle Falcons. During the 2022–23 season, he became Newcastle’s leading tryscorer, scored 14 tries, and made it into the Premiership Under-23 Dream Team.

As he sought further development and a new challenge, he signed for French side Bayonne in 2024. In France, he struggled to replicate his England form, but continued to work. In October 2025, he signed a new contract keeping him at the club until 2028.

The contract showed how much Mateo had been making strides behind the scenes, fighting to be a mainstay in the wing position.

ARGENTINA NATIONAL TEAM

Making a name during the 2018 World Rugby U20 World Championship, Mateo Carreras became a national talk. Soon after the U20 World Cup, he made his national team debut in the Sevens World Cup in Colorado.

Such experience helped the talented wing so much, preparing him for the longer test. Come 2020, Mateo Carreras made it into the Argentina squad for the 2020 Super Rugby season. The following year, in 2021, he made his debut for Argentina, starting a new era in his life.

Growing as a player and in the game, he qualified for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. He played a part in helping his national team and scored three tries.
