Fehi Fineanganofo is a New Zealand professional rugby union player who currently plays as a winger for the Hurricanes in Super Rugby, Bay of Plenty in New Zealand’s domestic National Provincial Championship and the New Zealand sevens.

Coming through as a top star playing rugby league before switching to union in his early days, Fehi had a lot of expectations. However, injuries stalled his development, and he did not cement his place among the best until 2025.

FEHI FINEANGANOFO’S AGE AND EARLY LIFE

Born on 31 August 2002, Fehi Fineangonofo is currently 23 years old, turning 24 in August 2026. The talented wing was born in Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand, where he started playing rugby as a young boy.

Fehi started playing rugby league before he joined rugby union when he enrolled at Auckland Grammar School. The switch looked natural to the talented, fast and physical winger, who settled quickly.

Within a few years, he became one of the finest rugby stars at the school, representing the school in several tournaments. He also made it into the New Zealand Secondary Schools team in 2020.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER

After impressing in junior rugby, Fehi Finenganofo joined Bay of Plenty in the National Provincial Championship, where he showed his qualities. He impressed so much that he attracted interest from top Super Rugby clubs.

In November 2024, Fehi signed for the Hurricanes but struggled to find his best place in the team. Fehi suffered an ankle and knee injury, which he nursed before the Hurricanes’ breakthrough.

He went on to suffer another major injury, this time a hamstring injury, during their 47-24 victory over the Blues in May 2026. He fought hard to overcome the injury and finished the season as the highest try scorer.

Ending his Hurricanes career with top form, Fineanganofo signed for Newcastle Red Bulls in January 2026. His move to England sparked a lot of talk among Al Black fans ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. “I got my tries in front of Mum and Dad. That was a surreal moment. My parents are in Brisbane to support my younger brother, John, who plays in the NRL with the Dolphins. Dad always said to support the ball carrier. I guess that advice paid off.” He said, speaking of his parents after a match in May 2026.

Besides, his parents, Fehi Fineanganofo, have four siblings, including his brothers Melino and Johnboy, who are also in rugby. Fehi is so close to his siblings, and they also played a great part in his rise as a young boy. Even today, they support each other in their careers through challenging times, such as injuries and periods of loss of form.

Besides his close family, Fehi also has his extended family, and they love him. In May 2026, they came in large numbers to show their support, and he went to greet them after the match. Together, they caught up and enjoyed some special time in the stands.
