Ruben Love’s father is Matene Love, who was himself a professional rugby player. Matene is well known for his service to the Māori All Blacks, Manawatū and Whanganui in the 1980s. Over the years, Matene had been the main mentor and coach to the talented fullback. He taught him the basics as a young boy, and most importantly, the right attitude to succeed in professional rugby.
Even during high school at Palmerston North Boys’ High School, he once again played a key role in his development.
Ruben Love’s mother is Lorna Love, the woman who guided him as a young boy. Unfortunately, Lorna passed away.
