Ardie Savea was named the All Blacks captain, and his mother, Lina, got emotional, trying to hold back her tears. Indeed, a great moment that the Savea family had been waiting for Ardie to be the leader of the New Zealand rugby team.
Such a moment took its time, but now it is confirmed, Ardie will be leading the decorated team from now onwards, starting a new era under Dave Rennie.
Sharing with his mother for the first time, Ardie called her when she was still asleep. The conversation looked so perfect and emotional before Ardie shared the video on Instagram with a top caption.
“It takes a village 🙏🏽”, Ardie Said in his caption.
ARDIE SAVEA’S FATHER AND MOTHER REACT TO ALL BLACKS CAPTAINCY
With his wife, Saskia, sleeping by his side, Ardie called his mother, and she answered. He asked where his father, Matena, was, and he came so fast, wondering why he was needed on the call. Probably, he thought it was one of the random calls with their son.
Immediately, Ardie told them that the coach had called him and that he was the new All Blacks captain. His father nodded, but his mother could not hold back her tears. She removed her spectacles and wiped away tears, unable to believe that the wait was over.
Indeed, it’s been long with many All Blacks fans believing that Ardie Savea was supposed to be leading the team.
ARDIE SAVEA EMBRACE BEING THE NEW ALL BLACKS CAPTAIN
Despite captaining the All Blacks before as a fill-in for injuries and illnesses, Ardie Savea knows that being the permanent captain is a little different.
“I guess the biggest difference is the pressure and the responsibility,” Ardie reflected on the future as captain.
“We’re representing a whole nation and every single Kiwi around the world,” he added, showing how much he understands the responsibility and the expectations.
“That can either burden you, or you can walk towards it and embrace it,” the 32-year-old star continued.
“And I’m lucky I’ve got great people and great leaders within our team and coaches that we’re able to walk towards and embrace the challenge,” he finished, showing his humility as a human being.
