Siya Kolisi has welcomed fellow Springbok Bongi Mbonambi after he signed for the DHL Stormers. The Springboks captain is well known for his vibe and human touch; his ability to bring together great teams is an open book to all.
Surely, getting to play with the man who stood in for him as captain during the Rugby World Cup in France is something massive. Now, Siya and Bongi would be sharing the dressing room at the Stormers and the Springboks national team.
The future is exciting for the DHL Stormers fan base, but even more so for Siya, a player who knows what Bongi brings to the team.
“@mr_mbonambi cross check cover check we flying ❤️😍🥹” Siya said as he continued posting several emojis, failing to hide his joy.
SIYA KOLISI AND BONGI MBONAMBI UNITED AT DHL STORMERS
Bongi Mbonambi started his Stormers journey in 2015 and left in 2021 for the Sharks. During these years, Bongi shared the Stormers dressing room with Siya Kolisi when they were still young players.
Years later, the two stars have both won the Rugby World Cup twice, and they are back to the Stormers as veterans of the game. With Bongi coming in a few days away from the United Rugby Championship Ulster clash, he is set to feature. Injuries to hookers André-Hugo Venter, Deon Fourie, Lukhanyo Vokozela, Almero Keizer and Luca Bakkes leave the Stormers with no choice but to bring Bongi straight into action.
JOHN DOBSON WELCOMES BONGI MBONAMBI TO DHL STORMERS
Speaking of Bongi’s arrival, Rugby Director, John Dobson expressed his joy on managing to seal the deal in such a short time.
“We all know the quality that Bongi brings, and it is fantastic that we were able to arrange this deal at such short notice. We are grateful to both Bongi and the Sharks for helping to make this happen. Bongi became a Springbok while playing for us and has proven himself among the best in the world in the middle of the front row. We have been hit hard with both injuries and suspension to our hookers, so we are delighted to welcome Bongi back to the fold,” he said.
