MAX JORGENSEN’S EARLY LIFE
Born on 2 September 2004, Max Jorgensen was born in Egland and holds a British passport. Upon arriving in Australia, Max played junior Rugby League for the Leichhardt Juniors club. At Leichhardt Juniors club, he developed his talent, becoming one of the country’s top players.
He was also a key part of St Joseph’s College, where he finally announced his name in professional rugby corridors. As interest from top clubs grew, reports emerged that Max had declined an offer from the Sydney Roosters.
That came as a shock to many fans, given the Roosters’ size, who chose to stay with the Waratahs’ academy. Indeed, Max was already in a solid position; he knew what he wanted.
SENIOR CAREER
Come the 2023 season, Max Jorgensen found his name in the Waratahs’ 2023 Super Rugby Season squad. He went on to make his professional debut in a disappointing game against the ACT Brumbies. The next game he also played, contributing to a win against Fijian Drua.
After playing a handful of games, Max signed a lengthy contract to stay with Rugby Australia and the Waratahs until 2031. Indeed, only time will tell if the hefty price will pay off.
WALLABIES
In 2023, the Wallabies invited Max Jorgensen, then a new name, to train under then-coach Eddie Jones. Max immediately impressed and found his place in the Wallabies 2023 Rugby World Cup squad.
Unfortunately, an injury forced him to withdraw before the tournament. After the injury, he worked his way back into the squad and was named in the 2024 Rugby Championship.
He went on to play his debut during a heavy 12 – 30 defeat with the Springboks in Perth. Max held his head high, worked hard with the team and played a key role in their 42 – 37 win over England in the 2024 Autumn Nations Series.
WHAT IS MAX JORGENSEN’S SALARY ON THE NEW CONTRACT?
In January 2026, Max signed a long-term contract that sparked widespread discussion in rugby circles. Despite its length, Max’s contract is said to be hefty for the bank.
The contract is reported to be around A$900k per season, making him one of the most paid youngsters. He expressed his desire and joy to represent Australia after signing the contract, speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald.
“I said to my manager, I want to stay. This is where my heart lies, and this is where I want to play. It was mainly that I was loving it here and being a part of the Tahs and the Wallabies, and I really wanted to stay,” he said.
“I didn’t really have any interest in going anywhere else. We weren’t keeping that a secret or anything. That was pretty much the conversation that was happening over the last six or so months since negotiations started, that I wanted to stay,” he finished.
