Former England number 8 Nick Easter has explained why he thinks the Red Rosses might shock the Springboks. Come 4 July, England meets one of their biggest rivals in South Africa in their Nations Championship’s first game.
With that said, England has a young-to-medium squad with some of the best young players in the world, such as Henry Pollock and Fin Smith. With that said, no one really knows where these young stars will end, while the Springboks are quite ageing.
Of course, the Springboks have tested and tried veterans; Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, and others have made the best rugby nation for the past decade. With the new competition coming, they seek to show the world once more before the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Surely this is not what Nick Easter believes; he feels there is something in the England squad capable of shocking the World Champions.
WHAT NICK EASTER AND VICTOR MATFIELD FEEL ABOUT THE ENGLAND VS SPRINGBOKS GAME
“I have a funny feeling England could nick it. A side with nothing to lose and a yard of pace is dangerous on its day,” he said.
“And I felt the same before Paris”, he finished speaking of the top World Cup clash between the giants in Paris.
With Nick being a little confident, former Springboks captain Victor Matfield also feels nervous about the Springboks.
“I’m nervous this weekend, I don’t know why we have had the one Barbarians game, haven’t really been tested,” Matfield said.
“Our guys come from all over the world, get closer, it’s the first game of the season,” he continued.
“I think the expectation is so high for the Springboks, the team that we are starting to feel like what New Zealand feel like. where everyone expects you to win every game,” he finished.
NICK EASTER’S COMMENT DIVIDES FANS
After Nick Easter revealed his feelings about the Springboks vs England game, he left the fans’ base divided.
@Zane Stadler “I’m not liking the over-confidence of my fellow Springbok supporters 😅 we have seen this movie before🤣”
@Vinay “South Africa are the World Champions and too strong for England”
@Roydan Scholtz “Of course, any teams in the top 6 could beat the other, that’s what makes this time in rugby so damn glorious”
