EARLY LIFE AND FAMILY BACKGROUND
Born on 31 March 1991 in Levin, the 34-year-old rugby star moved to Australia with his parents, where he lived until he was 11.
After 11 years, Codie’s parents relocated back to New Zealand, as they wanted to be closer to their own parents.
After returning to New Zealand, he attended Fielding High School, the only High school in Fielding at the time.
Despite his family’s frequent moves around Australia, Codie discovered his true origins in 2015. Codie is of Māori descent, a direct descendant of the Ka Mate creators, and is now one of the foremost Haka leaders among the current All Blacks.
His great-great-grandfather, Walter Pringle, was also a renowned rugby player who represented New Zealand.
In short, Codie’s family background is rooted in rugby, and the rugby DNA ran in his blood, even when he knew very little about his family history.
CODIE TAYLOR’S WIFE AND CHILDREN
In January 2019, Codie Taylor married his longtime girlfriend, Lucy Ryan, and they began their family.
When the two lovebirds married, they already had two children: Ayla-May, born in 2017, and Luca, born before their wedding.

As of 2025, Codie Taylor and his wife Lucy have three children. As a family, they demonstrate their unity on several occasions, whether during match days or off the rugby field.

Off rugby, Codie Taylor is a man who loves to spend time with his family, wife and kids. Together, they love to go to expensive places and spend considerable amounts of money. Most of the time, the family will be at the beach, enjoying the sand, sunshine, and water together.
When it comes to driving, Code loves big wheels and does not shy away from showing them off. Currently, he drives a black twin-cab Ford Ranger, which costs around NZD $89,990.00.

CAREER
Undoubtedly, one of the best hookers in the world, Codie, has made a name for himself since 2011 with the New Zealand under-20.
ALL BLACKS
Coming on as part of the Junior All Blacks, which won the 2011 IRB Junior World Championship, Codie was highly rated.

He went on to represent the Māori All Blacks in 2014 before joining the All Blacks in 2015, making his debut against Argentina.
In that same year, he was part of the 2015 World Rugby squad and went on to win the World Cup as one of the team’s young players.
Coming in as a potential replacement for a veteran hooker, Keven Mealamu, Taylor filled the shoes perfectly.
He went on to be the leader of the Haka, playing over a century of games for the rugby powerhouse.
CRUSADERS
Coming as the least hooker, Codie Taylor went on to be the most experienced hooker in the Cursaders team. He joined the team in 2013, coming on from junior rugby, and immediately impressed.
In 2020, he became the team vice captain together with David Hill when Scott Barrett was the captain. Unfortunately, Scott Barrett was injured, and Codie captained the team in Super Rugby Aotearoa.
He also captained the Crusaders in his 100th game for the team. As of 2025, Codie was the forward with the most tries in the Crusaders’ history.
CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS
With such a long career, Codie Taylor is one of the most decorated rugby players in New Zealand. He also reached a century of appearances for the All Blacks in January 2026.
At the international level, he won the Rugby World Cup with the All Backs in 2015. He also won the below:
