Robert Toia has quickly become one of rugby league’s most exciting young centres. The Sydney Roosters star has already experienced remarkable success at just 22.
Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Toia moved to Brisbane with his family, joined the Redcliffe Dolphins system, and then joined the Roosters’ pathway.

EARLY LIFE AND AGE
Robert Toia was born in Auckland on 11 August 2004. His family later moved to Brisbane when he was six years old. There, rugby league became an important part of his childhood.
Toia developed through the Redcliffe Dolphins junior system. His family environment also helped shape his competitive nature. With six brothers around him, the backyard provided plenty of opportunities for physical battles.

Sydney Roosters breakthrough
Toia made his NRL debut for the Sydney Roosters on 6 March 2025 against the Brisbane Broncos at Allianz Stadium.
The debut marked the beginning of an extraordinary rookie season. Toia quickly established himself as an important part of the Roosters’ backline.
His performances also attracted attention from Queensland selectors. After only 10 NRL matches, he received his first State of Origin opportunity.
Queensland Maroons
Toia made his Queensland debut against New South Wales in May 2025. He subsequently played all three matches during Queensland’s successful Origin campaign. The opportunity represented a remarkable rise for a player still establishing himself in the NRL.
